Dasht-e Margo, Desert plain in Nimruz, Afghanistan.

Dasht-e Margo is a vast desert plain spanning thousands of kilometers across southern Afghanistan. The landscape consists of sand fields and rocky-clay plains situated at elevations between 500 and 700 meters.

This remote desert region has served as a natural boundary between different Afghan territories for centuries. It shaped trade routes and population movements across southern Afghanistan.

The Persian name means Desert of Death, reflecting how local people understand the harsh conditions in this remote land.

This region is extremely dry and hot with sharp temperature swings between day and night. Visitors need sturdy off-road vehicles and should carry plenty of water, food, and safety gear since no services exist.

The ground contains rare solonchak and takir formations that create distinct soil patterns. These salt-weathered surfaces form a unique terrain visible even in satellite imagery.
