Poodří Protected Landscape Area, Protected natural area in Northern Moravia, Czech Republic.
Poodří Protected Landscape Area is a nature reserve in northern Moravia where the Odra River winds through extensive floodplains. The terrain combines meadows, woodlands, ponds, and pools into a diverse ecosystem that supports many animal species.
The area gained protected status in 1991 to safeguard the river's natural processes and its wetland systems. This decision recognized the ecological importance of the Odra region and helped prevent harmful development.
The region has long been home to people who work with the river and its rhythms, maintaining farming traditions that fit with nature. Visitors today experience a landscape shaped by generations of careful stewardship.
You can explore the reserve on designated hiking trails and cycling routes that wind through the landscape. Note that some areas close from April to September during bird nesting season, so plan visits outside these months for full access.
The reserve is home to an unusually high diversity of bat species, with roughly half of all bat species found in the country living here. This concentration makes it one of the best places in the Czech Republic to encounter these nocturnal animals.
