Lužické hory Protected Landscape Area

The Lausitzer Gebirge Landscape Protection Park is a nature reserve featuring long mountain ridges and cone-shaped peaks that rise between 700 and 800 meters. The terrain displays a mix of sandstone plateaus and volcanic formations that shape its overall structure.

The protected area gained its legal status in 1976, establishing rules for nature conservation and land management in the region. This decision reflected a broader movement to safeguard such landscapes during that era.

The area houses traditional villages whose architecture reflects regional building styles shaped by generations of inhabitants. Local communities use the landscape for walking and observing nature, which remains deeply connected to their sense of place.

Spring and autumn offer the best visiting conditions, with mild weather and well-maintained paths for walking. Access comes from several entry points near small towns, and visiting the administrative office in Jablonné v Podještědí helps with orientation and local information.

The terrain holds a rare combination of basalt peaks and extensive sandstone plateaus, which is geologically uncommon for this region. This mix resulted from different geological processes and continues to shape the variety of the landscape today.
