Tahquitz Canyon, Sacred canyon in Palm Springs, United States
The two-mile trail through Tahquitz Canyon leads to a 60-foot waterfall, surrounded by native plants and geological formations of the San Jacinto Mountains.
Archaeological excavations between 1988 and 1994 revealed numerous artifacts, including stone tools and ceramic fragments, documenting over 5000 years of Cahuilla presence.
The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians maintains this canyon, preserving ancient rock art, irrigation systems, and traditional cultural sites within the protected area.
The Tahquitz Canyon Visitor Center provides guided tours, educational exhibits, and information about trail conditions from October through July, with modified hours during summer months.
Mountain yellow-legged frogs were reintroduced to Tahquitz Creek in 2010 as part of an environmental conservation program to restore native species.
