Santa Rosa Wilderness, Protected wilderness area in Riverside County, United States
The Santa Rosa Wilderness spans 72,259 acres across Southern California's Santa Rosa Mountains, featuring steep canyons and elevations from sea level to 7,000 feet.
The California Wilderness Act of 1984 established this reserve, with additional 2,000 acres included through the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009.
The area contains numerous Native American archaeological sites, including ancient game trails, roasting pits, milling stations, rock shelters, and rock art.
The US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management jointly manage the wilderness, which permits hiking, horseback riding, and regulated hunting in designated zones.
The mountains support the largest population of peninsular bighorn sheep in the United States, with approximately 60 adult sheep residing in the terrain.
