Table Rock Civilian Conservation Corps Camp Site

Table Rock Civilian Conservation Corps Camp Site, Historic conservation camp in Pickens County, US.

Description

Table Rock Civilian Conservation Corps Camp Site is a historic location in South Carolina where two camps operated for several years. Today, only scattered stone structures remain, including a large bulletin board, a chimney foundation, and a decorative grotto.

History

Two camps operated here from 1935 to 1941, each with different responsibilities on the landscape. One focused on park development while the other built the dam at Pinnacle Lake.

Culture

The camp was part of a nationwide program that provided work for young men during the Great Depression. While employed here, they helped create recreational spaces that visitors still use today.

Practical

The site can be reached via Table Rock State Park Road Extension, which connects to South Carolina Highway 11. Visitors should expect minimal facilities, so it's best to come prepared with water and sun protection.

Did you know?

The most striking remaining feature is an eight-foot tall stone bulletin board decorated with a carved star design. This crafted structure reveals the attention to detail the workers brought to their projects.
