Ava, proposed residential skyscraper in Seattle, Washington
Ava is a planned mixed-use skyscraper in downtown Seattle at the corner of Pine Street and 8th Avenue. The 39-story building will stand approximately 445 feet tall and feature a modern design created by the architecture firm Weber Thompson.
The Ava project was designed in 2007 and approved by the city in 2008, but construction was delayed due to the economic recession. The building permit expired during the waiting period, and the project remains unbuilt to this day.
Once completed, the building will be easily accessible in downtown Seattle by bus, streetcar, and light rail transit options. It is designed to include approximately 395 residential units and 178 hotel rooms, along with underground parking for about 375 vehicles.
The story of Ava illustrates how major urban projects can stall due to economic conditions, as the 2008 recession halted construction plans. Despite decades of planning and approvals, the corner of Pine and 8th Avenue remains an unrealized location that could still reshape downtown Seattle's skyline.
