Blue Castle Project, proposed nuclear power plant in Green River, Utah
Blue Castle Project is a proposed nuclear power plant near Green River in Utah. The facility would have two reactors, each producing 1,500 megawatts of electricity, and would increase the state's power generation by roughly half.
The concept originated in 2007 when Transition Power Development first proposed it. Blue Castle Holdings took over the project in 2009 and spent years securing water rights and regulatory approvals.
The site sits roughly 5 miles northwest of Green River in a remote area with open landscapes. Visitors should note that no active construction is occurring and public access to the grounds is limited.
The project would have used less than 1 percent of Utah's current water consumption despite delivering massive electricity generation. This efficiency was a key factor in selecting the Green River site.
