The Northern Hotel was a three-story brick structure with large windows at each level and commercial spaces on the ground floor. The building combined residential and business areas, which was typical for structures in mining towns during that period.
The hotel was founded in 1907 by three businessmen from Goldfield, including the well-known Tex Rickard, who invested in this project. Its opening marked a period of economic growth in Ely during the mining boom.
The building served as a vital meeting place where the community gathered for commerce and social interaction. Its ground floor housed both a pharmacy and a bank, demonstrating how central it was to daily life in town.
The building today exists only as a ruin, so access is limited and requires caution. Visitors should approach the site with care, as it remains an unsafe and unsecured area.
A devastating fire destroyed the structure completely in 1964, marking the end of a promising business venture. The fire was a significant moment in local history that reflected the fate of many buildings from that era.
