Sahl Sinjar Air Base, Military air base in Nineveh Governorate, Iraq
Sahl Sinjar Air Base is a military installation in Nineveh Governorate in northern Iraq. The facility includes a runway measuring 2,987 meters long with taxiway systems that can serve as backup landing areas during emergencies.
International forces took control of the base in 2003 during Operation Iraqi Freedom and established it as Camp Sinjar for military training activities. The facility became a key training center for local security forces over the following years.
The base location near the Sinjar district reflects the strategic connection to local communities and regional military presence in northern Iraq.
The base is located approximately 350 kilometers north of Baghdad and roughly 100 kilometers southwest of Mosul in a strategically significant region. Access is strictly controlled by military authorities through security protocols and permits.
The United States Army 101st Airborne Division conducted specialized training programs here, including police instruction and sniper courses for local security personnel. These training activities significantly contributed to building professional capacity among regional forces.
