Kundasang, town in Sabah, Malaysia
Kundasang is a small highland town in Ranau District, Sabah, Malaysia, set on a plateau surrounded by forested hills. Its streets are narrow and lined with a loose mix of shops, food stalls, and simple houses.
The settlement grew as a stopping point for people moving through the highland area between Mount Kinabalu and the lower valleys. Over time it became a supply hub for nearby villages and travelers passing through.
Kundasang sits close to Kinabalu National Park and draws visitors who stop on their way to or from the mountain. The local markets are known for fresh vegetables grown in the cool highland air, including cabbages, carrots, and strawberries.
The town center is compact and easy to walk through, with most shops and stalls close together. Visiting early in the morning is a good idea since the market is at its busiest and the air is still cool.
Just outside the town there is a war memorial dedicated to Allied soldiers who died in this region during the Second World War. It is a quiet spot that many visitors pass without stopping, yet it offers a very different perspective on the area's past.
