Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Commercial complex in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur City Centre is a building complex in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, combining several towers, shopping areas, and a convention center across roughly 40 hectares. Between the structures lie landscaped parks, pedestrian walkways, and public squares linked by an underground tunnel system.
Planning for the site began in 1988 after the Selangor racing club moved to a new location. Over the following years, the cleared ground became a new business district with residential and office spaces, built out in stages.
Throughout the complex, Islamic design elements appear in facades, entrance halls, and public spaces. This fusion of traditional patterns with contemporary architecture shapes the area's appearance and makes it an example of Malaysian building design today.
Access is through the KLCC LRT station, which connects directly to the underground walkway network. Many areas are air-conditioned and comfortable to walk through in warm weather, while outdoor sections are less hot during early morning or late afternoon.
A centralized cooling system supplies chilled air to multiple buildings in the district and was the first of its kind in Malaysia. This network reduces energy use in individual structures and distributes cooling through underground pipes.
