Al Fahidi Fort, Historic fortification in Bur Dubai, UAE.
Al Fahidi Fort is a fortification with thick stone walls, watchtowers, and buildings made of stone and plaster built closely together. The structure stands south of Dubai Creek and contains multiple courtyards and rooms now used as a museum.
The fort was built in 1787 as a defensive structure and later served as a weapons storage, prison, and residence for the ruling family. It reflects Dubai's history from a small port town through its rapid growth.
The exhibits inside tell stories of pearl divers and merchants who once worked along the shore. The rooms show how people lived and traded here before the city transformed.
A visit works best when you take time for the different levels and rooms. There are shaded courtyards and air-conditioned exhibition areas that are pleasant in hot weather.
The basement level contains reconstructed market stalls and exhibits with burial goods from different periods. This hidden level shows daily life from about 70 years ago with craft details and goods that merchants once sold.
