Al Badiyah Mosque, 15th century mosque in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates
Al Badiyah Mosque is a house of worship in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. Four spiral domes rest on a central pillar and cover a small prayer room with stone walls.
The building was erected in 1446 and is considered the oldest mosque in the Emirates. The construction follows traditional Gulf methods from that period.
The name refers to the Arabic word for desert or rural area. Community members from the surrounding villages still gather here for shared prayer and conversation.
The site sits along the coastal road about 38 kilometers north of Fujairah city. Information panels on site explain the building's construction and background.
Excavations around the site uncovered pottery and metal weapons from 1000 BCE. These finds show that people lived at this spot thousands of years before the mosque was built.
