Hatta Heritage Village, Mountain heritage site in Hatta, United Arab Emirates
Hatta Heritage Village is a reconstruction of a traditional mountain settlement featuring approximately 30 buildings made from mud, palm tree trunks, reeds, and stone. The structures are built in the style typical of how people once lived in this highland region.
The village preserves structures from different periods, including a mosque built in 1780 and watchtowers from the 1880s. These buildings reflect how communities organized their mountain settlements over several centuries.
Local artisans demonstrate traditional Emirati crafts and skills through regular demonstrations in the reconstructed dwellings. Visitors can observe how people once made everyday objects and tools by hand.
Access to the site is straightforward, with parking facilities on-site and marked pathways connecting the buildings. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow adequate time for a leisurely walk, especially during warmer periods.
Two restored fortifications stand beside the village, offering views of the surrounding mountain landscape and revealing the historical water systems that enabled settlement in this arid region. These defensive structures show how vital water control and land management were for survival in the highlands.
