Jowzjan Province

Jowzjan province spans 11,798 square kilometers of varied terrain, from mountains to plains, at an elevation of 309 meters above sea level.

The province derives its name from the medieval principality of Juzjan and remained under Khanate of Bukhara rule from the 16th to mid-18th century.

The region maintains strong agricultural traditions with markets displaying local produce, while residents speak Dari and Uzbek throughout the districts.

The Mazar-e-Sharif-Sheberghan highway connects multiple districts, although security considerations affect travel conditions in certain areas of the province.

Natural gas and petroleum deposits lie beneath the province surface, making it a center for energy resource extraction in northern Afghanistan.
