Zabul Province

The region spans 17,293 square kilometers of mountainous terrain and flat lands across the southern part of Afghanistan, bordering Pakistan and four other provinces.

The province formed part of the ancient Zabulistan region and gained independence from Kandahar in 1963, establishing Qalat as its administrative center.

The population consists primarily of Pashtun tribes including Tokhi, Hotak, Nasar, and Kharoti, who maintain traditional agricultural and livestock practices.

Transportation relies on Highway 1 connecting Kandahar to Kabul, while an unpaved airstrip near Qalat serves both military and commercial flights.

The northern mountains contain meadows with sea buckthorn trees and willows, while dry shrubland and pistachio trees characterize the lower elevations.
