Martiros Saryan House-Museum, Art museum in Yerevan, Armenia.
The Martiros Saryan House-Museum is an art museum set in the residential building in Yerevan, Armenia, where the painter lived for several decades. The house holds a large collection of his paintings alongside personal belongings and an attached studio that was his main workspace.
The Armenian painter Martiros Saryan moved into this house in 1932 and lived there until his death in 1972. The building was turned into a museum in 1967, while he was still alive, to help preserve his body of work.
Saryan's paintings often show the Armenian landscape, including Mount Ararat, village life, and warm sunlit colors that reflect how he saw his homeland. Walking through the rooms gives a sense of how Armenian painters of his generation chose to represent their world.
The museum is in a residential part of Yerevan and is easy to reach on foot from the city center. Weekdays tend to be quieter, which makes it easier to spend time in each room without rushing.
Saryan himself helped establish the museum while he was still alive, personally selecting which works and objects would be displayed. This makes the house one of the few places where an artist literally arranged his own memorial space.
