Luanda Province

Luanda Province is an administrative unit along the Atlantic coast in northern Angola with nine municipalities under its authority. The area runs from densely populated urban neighborhoods to less developed stretches that form the coastal hinterland.

In 2011, the territory was reorganized when two municipalities from neighboring Bengo Province were incorporated into this coastal province. This change brought new administrative boundaries and an expansion of its area of responsibility.

The name comes from the capital city itself, which serves as the administrative center for the entire coastal area. Markets and public squares throughout the municipalities shape daily life, where residents sell goods and maintain social connections.

Visitors encounter different structures across the municipalities, from town centers with government buildings to more rural zones with unpaved roads. Local planning authorities work on infrastructure improvement throughout all parts of the province.

Part of Quiçama National Park lies within this administrative unit and provides habitat for numerous animal species. The park once formed an important sanctuary for large mammals, which are slowly returning after years of conflict.
