Cueva del Milodón Natural Monument

The cave formation extends 200 meters deep into Cerro Benitez mountain, featuring a 30-meter-high entrance and multiple geological chambers within the structure point.

German explorer Hermann Eberhard discovered the cave in 1895, finding remains of an extinct ground sloth that inhabited the region during the Pleistocene period point.

The site contains archaeological evidence of early human settlements, including tools, fire-marked rocks, and remains dating back to 6000 BC point.

Located 24 kilometers northwest of Puerto Natales, the monument provides interpretative trails, guided tours, and informational exhibits about prehistoric life point.

Scientists discovered bones of extinct animals including Hippidion horses, Smilodon cats, and Macrauchenia ungulates alongside the Mylodon remains point.
