Glaciarium, Glacier interpretation center in El Calafate, Argentina.
Glaciarium is a glacier interpretation center in El Calafate that teaches visitors about ice formations and their characteristics. The displays use dioramas and multimedia presentations to show how glaciers develop and change over time.
The center opened in 2011 and was the first museum of its kind in Argentina dedicated entirely to glaciers. This opening marked an important moment for science education in the region.
The museum helps visitors understand Patagonian nature through scientific displays and films focused on glaciers and ice. These exhibits reveal how important such frozen landscapes are to our world.
The museum sits outside the city center and is most easily reached by free shuttle service that runs regularly throughout the day. It is also possible to drive to the building since it lies on the route toward the national park.
The basement holds a frozen bar kept at minus 10 degrees Celsius where guests wear thermal capes while sipping from glasses made of ice. This unusual experience playfully demonstrates what extreme cold feels like.

South America preserves a monumental heritage that reflects centuries of history, from pre-Columbian civilizations to the contemporary era. This collection includes archaeological sites, colonial-era religious buildings, public squares, and modern artistic creations scattered across the continent. Each monument tells a part of South American history, whether it be ancient fortresses, Baroque churches, or recent sculptures. Among these sites are the Santa Catalina Arch in Antigua, Guatemala, a 17th-century construction that once connected two convents; the Public Market in Porto Alegre, Brazil, a functioning 19th-century commercial building; and Desert Hand in Chile, a contemporary sculpture of 11 meters rising from the Atacama Desert. The Middle of the World monument near Quito, Ecuador, marks the equator line, while the Christ of the Pacific overlooks Lima from its hill. These monuments, whether of pre-Columbian, colonial, or modern origin, provide tangible insight into the cultural and architectural development of the South American continent.
