Tyndall Glacier, Glacier in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile
The Tyndall Glacier extends 32 kilometers through the western Patagonian Andes Mountains and flows directly into the waters of Lago Geikie.
The glacier received its name from John Tyndall, a 19th-century British geologist who advanced the understanding of glacial formations and movements.
Local communities integrate the glacier into their environmental education programs, teaching about climate patterns and geological transformations in Patagonia.
Visitors can reach observation points of the glacier through marked hiking trails in Torres del Paine National Park from October to April.
A prominent medial moraine runs along the central axis of the glacier, creating a visible dark line that marks the meeting point of ice flows.
