Puerto Guadal, Lake village in Chilean Patagonia, Chile
Puerto Guadal is a small village on the southwestern shore of Lake General Carrera, surrounded by Andean peaks. The settlement sits at about 210 meters elevation and features pastureland and water views.
The settlement was founded in 1918 when pioneers established the first trading posts supplied primarily by water transport across the lake. This waterway connection remained the main link to the outside world for many years.
Residents farm sheep and cattle on the surrounding pastures and produce local honey and rosehip products that reflect the region's rural traditions. These activities shape the daily rhythm and landscape around the village.
You reach the village via Route CH-265, which connects to the Carretera Austral and continues toward Chile Chico. The road is unpaved and can become slippery during rainy seasons, so careful driving is necessary.
The Los Maquis waterfall located about 2 kilometers from the village drops roughly 25 meters down sheer rock faces. The place also serves as a starting point for exploring the surrounding lakes and mountains of Patagonia.
