Villa Cerro Castillo, Mountain village at Carretera Austral, Chile.

Villa Cerro Castillo is a small settlement situated at 404 meters elevation beside the Ibáñez River, nestled between granite peaks that define the landscape. The surrounding area displays the distinctive mountain formations that characterize Cerro Castillo National Park.

The settlement was established in 1966 along the Carretera Austral route, helping to connect remote communities across Patagonia. The construction of this highway was crucial to the area's development.

The village sits at a place where visitors can encounter traces of the Tehuelche people, particularly through hand paintings visible at the Paredon de los Manos archaeological site. These ancient handprints shape how people understand the region's past.

The place offers basic services and several lodging choices including guesthouses, campgrounds, and cabins for travelers. The warmer months provide the best conditions for visiting, when trails are easier to access and weather is more stable.

The village serves as a starting point for several trekking routes, including a trail of approximately 49 kilometers to turquoise glacial lakes. These routes pass through less frequented paths compared to other popular destinations.
