Museo Regional de Aysén, History museum in Coyhaique, Chile
The Regional Museum of Aysén occupies restored buildings from the former Industrial Society and displays exhibition rooms as well as outdoor areas across a large property. The collection includes local findings, fossils such as Chilesaurus diegosuarezi, and historical items from the early settlement period.
The buildings date back to 1903 when the Aysén Industrial Society built these structures and opened up the valley economically. The site was named a national monument in 2009 and now operates as a public museum.
The institution takes its name from the entire Aysén Region and reflects the area's diverse past. Visitors can see how the spaces tell stories about settlers, work, and daily life in this remote part of the country.
The museum is located along the Coyhaique Alto road and is open Tuesday through Friday with limited Saturday hours. Visitors should allow time to explore the outdoor grounds and can expect quieter visiting periods.
A safe from the former accounting office of the Industrial Society still stands on site and shows how money and administration worked during early settlement times. This overlooked detail reveals the business structure behind colonization.
