Petrified Forest is a protected natural site near Sarmiento where countless ancient tree remains lie scattered across sandy ground. Stone logs, branches, and plant fragments of different sizes are visible throughout the landscape.
The site preserves fossilized remains of trees from approximately 65 million years ago, when this region was covered by green marshland and wetlands. These specimens demonstrate what plant life looked like in ancient Patagonia.
