Teatro Condell

Teatro Condell is an independent cinema in central Valparaíso with roughly 350 seats that presents alternative films, documentaries, and cultural events. The intimate space and small stage create a close connection between the audience and the work being shown.

The building was designed by Italian architect Antonio Lafoglia and opened in 1912 as Teatro Esmeralda, later renamed in 1928. The 2010 earthquake caused serious structural damage that led to major restoration work in following years.

The venue screens films selected by the INSOMNIA collective, featuring works from national and international artists. It serves as a gathering place for those seeking independent cinema and alternative storytelling.

The theater is located in the downtown area and is easily accessible on foot from Plaza Victoria. Visitors should check ahead for current screenings and event schedules, as they change regularly.

The 2019 renovation installed new floors, beams, and seats with backing from the national Ministry of Culture. This modernization proved the historic structure could be preserved while providing contemporary comfort for visitors.
