Teatro Parque Cousiño, Historical theatre in Barrio Viel, Santiago, Chile
Teatro Parque Cousiño is a three-story building with a basement located at San Ignacio 1249 in the Barrio Viel neighborhood. The auditorium holds 390 seats distributed across two levels and displays the architectural style of its construction period.
The building was constructed between 1926 and 1927 by architects Manuel Cifuentes and Horacio Guzmán and originally served members of a mutual aid organization. It went on to serve the community as an entertainment venue for many decades.
Between 1950 and 1973, the building was known as Teatro Humoresque and hosted comedians and performers who entertained Santiago audiences. The stage was an important part of the neighborhood's social life during that time.
The interior was restored in 2012 with cultural funding, which included repainting the entrance hall and converting storage areas into flexible multipurpose rooms. Visitors will find the building well-maintained and equipped to host various types of events.
The structure displays a blend of architectural styles using reinforced concrete with ornate decorative elements on the facade, walls, and ceiling. These detailed embellishments reflect the theatrical design preferences of that era in South America.
