Gruta de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, Sacred temple in Quinta Normal, Santiago, Chile
The Lourdes Grotto contains an outdoor temple with a statue of the Virgin Mary measuring 2.27 meters and weighing 1,500 kilograms.
The Lourdes Grotto inauguration took place on February 11, 1908, marking the 50th anniversary of the Virgin Mary apparitions to Bernadette Soubirous in France.
The site features 18 paintings by Chilean artist Pedro Jofré depicting the apparitions, distributed along small hermitages in the Path of Bernadette.
The sacred site connects directly to the Santiago Metro system through the Gruta de Lourdes station on Line 5.
The northern section houses a Virgin of Lourdes statue designed by Sister Ana Frank, depicting the moment when Mary made the sign of the cross.
