Cerro Renca, Mountain summit in Santiago Region, Chile
Cerro Renca is a summit on the northern edge of Santiago's urban area, reaching around 905 meters above sea level. It rises noticeably above the surrounding neighborhoods and connects through trails to nearby peaks such as Cerro Colorado and Puntilla Lo Ruiz.
The mountain has marked the boundary between the municipalities of Quilicura and Renca since Santiago's early development. As the city grew outward, the hill remained a fixed geographical reference point in an otherwise changing landscape.
On national holidays, local people gather on the summit to watch fireworks light up the city below. The spot has become a natural meeting point for residents who want to share these moments with a view.
The hike suits people with moderate fitness and can be approached by different routes depending on your preference. Wear sturdy footwear as the ground is uneven in places, and keep in mind that weather can shift quickly near the top.
On a clear day, both the Andes to the east and the coastal range to the west are visible from the top at the same time. Few spots within Santiago's city limits offer this kind of view of the two mountain systems framing the valley.
