Parque Mapocho Poniente, Urban park in Cerro Navia, Chile
Parque Mapocho Poniente sits along the southern bank of the Mapocho River, providing 13 hectares of green space with diverse recreational facilities. The park includes soccer fields, roller skating rinks, skateparks, multipurpose courts, and two artificial ponds.
The park began construction in January 2021 as part of Santiago's larger urban renewal efforts. Architects Hernan Fontaine and Diego Labbe designed the project to revitalize the area along the Mapocho River.
The plantings feature native Chilean species like maquis and quillay that reflect the local ecosystem. Walking through, you notice how these plants shape the park's appearance and give it a local character.
The park has multiple access points and wide pathways suitable for different mobility needs. You will find clear signage directing you to the various sports areas and recreational zones throughout the space.
Three pedestrian bridges link the park to the neighboring Renca district and planned Metro Line 7 stations. These bridges create new pathways across the river and prepare the area for future public transportation connections.
