Palacio Schacht, Neoclassical community center in Providencia, Chile.
Palacio Schacht is a neoclassical cultural center in Providencia with two main levels and a basement, accessed via stairs decorated with lion sculptures on Nueva Providencia Avenue. The building contains multiple halls designed for different types of events and artistic presentations.
Austrian architect Alberto Siegel Lubbe designed the building in 1921 as a residence for German Honorary Consul Guillermo Schacht Troger, who relocated from Valparaiso to Santiago. The property was later transformed into a cultural venue to support artistic activity in the neighborhood.
The space functions today as a gathering place for art lovers, hosting concerts, exhibitions, and theater performances throughout the year. Visitors can experience local creative work in multiple rooms and an outdoor garden designed for artistic expression.
The main hall accommodates about 95 seated guests, while the basement space holds around 120 people for concerts and theater productions. The grand staircase with lion sculptures marks the entrance and sets the tone for your visit.
The building blends adobe walls with wooden floors crafted from walnut and mañío wood, two native Chilean timber species. This combination gives the interiors a warm, character-filled quality that reflects traditional local craftsmanship.
