Museo Parque de las Esculturas de Providencia, Open-air sculpture museum along Mapocho River in Providencia, Chile
Museo Parque de las Esculturas is an open-air art museum with more than 40 sculptures arranged across landscaped grounds along the northern bank of the Mapocho River in Santiago. The works of varying sizes sit among trees and planted areas, forming an uncovered gallery without walls or roofs.
Following devastating floods in 1982, this area became Latin America's first sculpture park, officially opening on December 17, 1986. The project transformed a damaged location into a public space for contemporary art.
The collection displays work by five sculptors who received Chile's highest art honors. These artists shaped the visual character of this riverside space through their creations.
The park is free and open daily, best reached by taking the metro to Pedro de Valdivia station and walking north. Access is flat and straightforward, allowing visitors to explore the entire grounds without difficulty.
A special lighting installation from 2013 illuminates the sculptures during evening hours, constantly changing how visitors perceive the artworks. This technique creates entirely new perspectives on familiar pieces once dusk arrives.
