Puente Centenario, Road bridge in Vitacura district, Santiago, Chile
Puente Centenario is a road bridge spanning the Mapocho River that connects both banks along the Americo Vespucio thoroughfare. It passes over several major transportation routes and serves as a key junction in Santiago's road network.
The bridge was built in 1988 during a period of infrastructure development in Santiago. It was part of broader efforts to modernize the city's transportation system.
The C18 feeder bus of the Transantiago system crosses the bridge, running between the Dorsal station and the Escuela Militar metro station along Américo Vespucio, between Avenida del Parque de Huechuraba and Renato Sánchez street in Las Condes. Zone C buses, operated by Veolia Redbus Urbano, are red with a white band and are mostly refurbished Metrobús minibuses.
The bridge is easily accessible via Americo Vespucio Avenue and connects to several major roads. Traffic can be heavy during peak hours, so drivers should allow extra time.
The multi-level interchange beside the bridge, Enlace Centenario, has twelve ramps and nine structures on three levels: local roads and Costanera Norte at ground level, Américo Vespucio on the second, and the Acceso Nororiente on the third. Its 210-metre overpass has concrete and metal anti-impact barriers, and its highest point runs 20 metres above the La Pirámide viewpoint.
