Lima Department

The Lima Department spans 32,129 square kilometers from coastal zones to mountain peaks, reaching elevations of 3,692 meters in the Andean sections.

The territory, established in 1821, originated from the Intendancy of Lima during colonial times and transformed into the Department of the Coast after independence.

Archaeological discoveries in the Chillon River valley revealed a 4,200-year-old astronomical observatory with sophisticated carvings and three-dimensional sculptures from Pre-Ceramic cultures.

The department contains nine provinces with 171 districts, connected through an extensive network of roads linking coastal areas to mountain communities.

The Lachay National Reserve within the department supports plant and animal species through natural mist, creating an ecological system in the desert environment.
