Fortaleza de Collique, Archaeological site in Comas district, Peru.

The Collique Fortress is an archaeological site built on elevated terrain in Lima, with remains of defensive walls, residential areas, and storage structures visible throughout the grounds. The complex follows the contours of the hill, creating distinct zones for different activities and showing how a pre-Hispanic community organized its space.

The fortress was built and occupied by the Colli people for several centuries before Inca forces conquered it around 1470. This conquest ended the independence of the local population and incorporated their territory into the expanding Inca realm.

The site carries the name of the Colli people, who made this hilltop their home and developed a distinct way of living. Visitors can see how the layout reflects their priorities: defense, food storage, and community organization in one place.

The site is open year-round and accessible by public transportation from various neighborhoods in Lima. The terrain is uneven with some steep slopes, so visitors should wear suitable footwear and be prepared for a challenging walk.

The complex was strategically positioned on a hilltop that allowed control over the valleys and key passages in the surrounding area. This elevated location provided a command point that made it easier to monitor activities below and manage the territory effectively.
