Cordillera Huayhuash Reserved Zone

The Cordillera Huayhuash Reserved Zone spans 67,589 hectares of mountainous terrain with peaks reaching elevations between 3,650 and 6,634 meters above sea level.

Established in December 2002, the reserve implements protective measures for communal lands while permitting scientific research, recreation activities, and traditional practices within its boundaries.

The reserve includes seven different communities across three regions: Llámac, Pacllón, Queropalca, Jesús, Tupac Amaru, Uramaza, and Huayllapa maintain their traditional practices.

The Huayhuash Circuit, a trek of 45 to 165 kilometers, requires permits from local communities and takes between 8 to 12 days to complete.

The reserve contains 106 peaks, including Yerupajá at 6,634 meters, and provides habitat for 61 bird species, 14 mammals, and 272 plant species.
