Máncora, Coastal settlement in Talara Province, Peru.
Máncora is a settlement on the northern Pacific coast of Peru with a sandy beach and palm trees along the waterfront. Buildings spread on either side of the main through road, while the commercial district concentrates within a few blocks.
The area served as a fishing village for centuries before being organized as a separate administrative district in 1908. Since then, the place has grown into a coastal town drawing increasing numbers of travelers from other regions.
Local cuisine combines seafood with ingredients from the nearby Andes, reflecting the region's geographic range. Fishermen bring their catch directly to shore each morning, supplying the surrounding restaurants and markets.
Arrivals through Piura, Talara or Tumbes airports require a subsequent drive along the coastal highway. The area suits a visit throughout the year as temperatures remain stable.
The water offshore maintains temperatures between 21 and 26 degrees Celsius year-round due to current patterns. On some days, seabirds gather in larger numbers above the nearby waves when fish schools reach the surface.
