Puente Bolognesi, Road bridge in Piura, Peru.
Puente Bolognesi is a cable-stayed bridge crossing the Piura River and connecting the districts of Piura and Castilla. The structure features four vehicle lanes and two pedestrian walkways for daily use.
The original bridge from 1967 was destroyed during the 1997-1998 El Niño floods. Reconstruction took place between 2000 and 2001 with structural improvements.
A memorial at the bridge entrance honors those who died in the 1998 collapse. It serves as a place of remembrance for the city.
The bridge is easily walkable during the day and serves thousands of daily commuters. The wide pedestrian paths are well-maintained and comfortable for crossing.
The bridge rests on four caissons that extend over 20 meters deep into the ground. This innovative foundation design eliminates the need for supports within the river itself.
