Sangolquí

Sangolquí is a city in the Andes at approximately 2,500 meters elevation, located east of Quito. The urban area features residential neighborhoods, shops, and public spaces spread across its valleys.

The area was originally inhabited by the Shuar people before being established as a Spanish settlement in 1579. Over the centuries it transformed from a farming community into a modern urban center.

The San Vicente Ferrer Church sits at the center with colonial architecture reflecting local heritage. Religious ceremonies and celebrations bring people together and shape the rhythm of community life.

The Autopista General Rumiñahui highway connects the city to Quito with regular bus services available. The higher elevation means cooler temperatures, so bringing warmer clothing is advisable.

The local football club Independiente del Valle has achieved international success and won Copa Sudamericana titles. These sporting accomplishments have brought worldwide attention to the city.
