Ucayali Province

The Ucayali Province spans 29,293 square kilometers of predominantly flat terrain within the Amazon rainforest, intersected by numerous waterways and tributaries.

The province, established in 1900 by President Eduardo López de Romaña, developed from indigenous settlements along the rivers into an administrative region.

Indigenous groups maintain their traditions across six districts, speaking native languages including Asháninka and Shipibo alongside Spanish as primary communication methods.

Transportation within the province relies heavily on river networks, with Contamana serving as the capital and main administrative center for government services.

The province contains substantial sections of unexplored rainforest, housing diverse wildlife species and maintaining some of Peru's most isolated communities.
