Ucayali Province, Administrative province in Loreto Region, Peru.
Ucayali Province is an administrative region in the Amazon rainforest characterized by flat terrain and extensive river networks. The area encompasses six districts, with Contamana serving as the main administrative center.
The province was established in 1900 and grew from indigenous settlements along the river systems. This founding shaped the region's current administrative structure.
Several indigenous groups live across the area and maintain their traditional languages and customs. Spanish coexists with Asháninka, Shipibo, and other local languages in everyday communication.
Getting around depends mainly on river transportation, as road networks are limited. Visitors should plan for water-based travel and use local guides.
Parts of the region remain largely unexplored, hosting diverse wildlife and some of Peru's most isolated communities. This remoteness means certain areas are difficult to access from the outside world.
