Río Vaquerías

Río Vaquerías is a mountain stream flowing through the Quebrada Vaquerías with natural pools and waterfalls surrounded by granite cliffs and native plants. The river carves through diverse terrain, creating small cascades and clear water basins along its path.

The name comes from 'vaquerías', colonial cattle hunting grounds where cowboys captured wild herds. This activity shaped the region's identity during Spanish colonization.

Local people around the river continue telling stories about mythical water beings that have been shared for many generations. These tales shape how visitors and residents alike experience and value the place today.

Visitors can reach the river by following marked trails starting from Valle Hermoso, with spring months best for comfortable temperatures. September through November offer ideal conditions for hiking and swimming in the natural pools.

The river is protected within a natural reserve established in 1991 that spans diverse ecological zones in the area. This protection ensures that the landscape and its wildlife remain intact for visitors to experience.
