Uritorco

Uritorco is a mountain summit near Capilla del Monte that rises to 1,949 meters and marks the highest point of the Sierras Chicas range. Hiking trails wind up the slopes, allowing visitors to explore the surrounding landscape and valleys below.

The name comes from Quechua language and means 'male hill,' reflecting the region's indigenous roots. This naming tradition shows how indigenous terms have remained alive in the local landscape and culture.

The summit holds spiritual meaning for local people, who gather there for ceremonies and observances. These practices show how deeply the mountain is woven into the life of the region.

The hike to the top takes about three hours on marked trails that are regularly used. Bring proper clothing and shoes, as weather at the summit can change quickly.

The mountain closed in 2012 when thousands gathered there based on end-of-the-world theories. This event brought international attention to the site and showed its power to draw people from far away.
