Palacio Cabanellas, Art Nouveau building in downtown Rosario, Argentina.
Palacio Cabanellas is a building in downtown Rosario featuring curved lines and organic forms across its facades, characteristic of Catalan Modernisme design. A prominent dome rises at the corner of Sarmiento and San Luis streets, where the structure displays its most elaborate decorative details.
Architect Francesc Roca i Simó designed this structure in 1914 after studying with Antoni Gaudí in Barcelona, bringing that influence to South America. The building reflects the designer's experience with European Modernisme movements and their adaptation to the local context.
This palace represents one of the few examples of Catalan Modernisme found outside Europe, with influences from early 20th century Barcelona design movements. Visitors can observe the European artistic approach in the curved ornaments and decorative elements throughout the structure.
A complete restoration in the mid-2000s repaired structural issues and restored the ornamental elements to their original appearance. The best viewing angle is from the corner intersection of Sarmiento and San Luis streets, where the full architectural composition becomes apparent.
This structure served as a filming location for the 2006 movie ¿De quién es el portaligas?, directed by Argentine musician Fito Páez. The building's appearance and architectural style made it an ideal setting for capturing the story on screen.
