Museo Arqueológico Inca Huasi, Ethnographic museum in La Rioja Province, Argentina.
Museo Arqueológico Inca Huasi is an ethnographic museum in La Rioja Province that displays more than 9000 archaeological artifacts from indigenous cultures of northwest Argentina. The collections include tools, textiles, pottery, and other objects spanning different pre-Columbian periods.
The museum was founded in 1926 by Franciscan Bernardino Gómez in a small room at a school. It eventually grew into a dedicated building that could house its expanding collection of pre-Columbian artifacts.
The collections show how the Diaguita, Belén, Condorhuasi, Aguada, and Santa María peoples lived through carefully preserved objects and ritual items. Visitors can see the daily practices and values that shaped these communities.
The museum is located in La Rioja and offers guided tours and educational programs for visitors interested in pre-Columbian history. Allow enough time to explore the different exhibition areas at your own pace.
The museum displays a rare vuyuna, an ancient textile weight decorated with undeciphered patterns from pre-Hispanic civilizations. This mysterious artifact remains puzzling to researchers and adds intrigue to the collections.
