Horacio Guzmán International Bridge

Horacio Guzmán International Bridge, International road bridge at La Quiaca, Argentina and Villazón, Bolivia.

The Horacio Guzmán Bridge is a concrete structure that spans across the La Quiaca River, linking Argentina's National Route 9 with Bolivia's Route 14. The relatively short crossing has a straightforward design and forms the physical transition between the two countries.

The bridge opened in 1960 and created a permanent connection between Argentina and Bolivia after previously limited crossing options existed. This new infrastructure significantly simplified border traffic between the two nations.

The bridge connects two neighboring towns where residents regularly trade goods, speak both Spanish dialects, and share local customs across the border. Walking through, you notice how people from both countries naturally interact and conduct daily business together.

Travelers crossing must complete separate customs procedures on the Argentine and Bolivian sides of the border. It is important to have all required documents and passports ready and to expect longer wait times during busy periods.

The bridge is the only active border crossing point in Jujuy province connecting Argentina with Bolivia. This makes it a central hub for all border crossings in this region.
