El Palmar Integrated Management Natural Area

El Palmar is a protected natural area featuring mountainous terrain with deep canyons and varied habitats at different elevations. The site contains diverse plant and animal species adapted to these different landscape types and climatic conditions.

The area was formally protected by government decree in 1997 to safeguard natural resources and ecosystems. This designation came from a commitment to preserve the region's biodiversity and ecological systems for the future.

The area is home to rare palm species that thrive at elevations between 2400 and 3200 meters, typically in wetland environments. This unusual adaptation to highland conditions makes these palms a distinctive feature of the protected landscape.
