Refúgio de Vida Silvestre Ilha dos Lobos, Wildlife refuge in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

The Refúgio de Vida Silvestre Ilha dos Lobos is a fully protected conservation unit 1.8 km off the coast of Torres, in northern Rio Grande do Sul. The refuge covers the Ilha dos Lobos islet, a rocky outcrop in the Atlantic that serves as a haul-out site for pinnipeds. Together with the Molhe Leste refuge in São José do Norte, it is one of only two pinniped concentration points on the Brazilian coast.

The refuge was established in 1983 under the management of Brazil's Federal Government. Since its creation, it has implemented ongoing conservation measures to protect its marine ecosystems.

The refuge serves as a working research location where scientists study how marine animals behave and interact in their natural environment. The ongoing studies help demonstrate why this protected space matters for keeping these species alive.

Visitors can obtain information about the refuge through the office in the nearby city of Torres, which is open on weekdays at set times. It is best to plan ahead since access to the protected area itself is restricted and visits depend on research activities.

Ilha dos Lobos and the Molhe Leste refuge in São José do Norte are the only places on the Brazilian coast where pinnipeds gather. Besides the common South American sea lion and fur seal, rarer visitors have been recorded: subantarctic fur seal, southern elephant seal, leopard seal and crabeater seal.
