Leblon

Leblon sits between Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas and Morro Dois Irmãos, featuring tall residential towers and a kilometer-long stretch of white sand beach. The waterfront includes shops, restaurants, and cafes that line the shore and serve residents and visitors throughout the year.

The neighborhood takes its name from Carlos Leblon, a French whaling entrepreneur who owned land here beginning in 1845. His early presence helped establish this area as part of Rio de Janeiro's expanding settlement patterns.

Beneath what became the modern neighborhood existed a concealed flower farm that sheltered escaped slaves during the abolition movement. Camellias grown there were sent to Princess Isabel, who played a key role in Brazil's path to ending slavery.
